Hertz's "amazing" discounts

This is a short but I guess an interesting story on how Hertz treats their customers which made me understood that avoiding loyalty programs surprisingly can save money.

But to the point.. As I plan to spent some time in Munich and surroundings I decided to rent a car. My first choice company till now had been Hertz so I went to their web page. Why? because of a few reasons. First, I like to have a car with GPS navigation. Hertz, in contrary to many of its competitors, offers such a service in the form of attachable devices (called NeverLost). Another reason is that I have been participating Hertz's loyalty program called "#1 Club Gold" and that's why I made use of its services many times in the past.

So I took my gold shiny card and started doing the booking. It was easy. I just selected Ford Focus which seemed to be good enough, checked "Add NeverLost" option and went to purchasing. I saw the following:159Euro... fair enough. Ok. But then I asked myself a question. How much do people, who don't have such a nice gold card as me, have to pay? So I logged out and started again.

The booking of same equipped car cost... 133Euro. Yes! 26 Euro cheaper that my special offer!

But that's not the end of the story. Suddenly, I noticed that I forgot to select Poland as my place of residence and the entire booking was made as if I were living in Germany. So I changed the location and started the process once again. And guess what the result was. 178 Euro!

It means 45Euro more than I would have to pay as a German!

Don't you think that's weird? Not only is the rate in Hertz loyalty program higher, but also I need to mind carefully the location settings! Hard to believe! I hope that there is somebody who can explain this. First, I will try to find such a person at Hertz;)

I quit

Short info to inform my colleagues reading this blog.

This time it's not an April's fool day joke ;-) As we agreed I quit from Spartez and Atlassian on last day of July. I'm unemployed now. I have some project ideas that I want to work on. For now (a week or two) I have longly deserved holidays :-)
